This week I joined the gym. That's my key fob to get in and a coin for my locker. I decided to pay a little bit extra to have a fitness assessment and a personal program done. I figured if I'm going to get the most out of it, I need some advice on the best resistance machines to use and how often to go and what not. I've never been to a gym before, so I was a bit nervous. Luckily, the staff are all lovely and really friendly.
I've found the personal programme is perfect for me, and the fitness assessment is going to be really helpful as I now have a sensible goal weight :) Yep, Christmas took its toll and I have some weight to lose plus some extra that I've been wanting rid of for a while! I also really want to improve my fitness, it certainly needs improving!
So now I face the dilemma that every sewist faces when trying to lose weight - do I carry on sewing? Do I sew clothes so they're a bit too small so I can shrink into them? Or do I just choose styles that look good belted so I can just tighten my belt? Hmm. . .
While I had my keys out, I also took a photo of the key ring that my youngest sister Ebony made for me :) Apparently she spent ages picking out beads that she thought I'd like!

There is some ideas here (http://artisanssquare.com/sg/index.php?topic=16795.0) that may help you decide. Lots of us who sew are trying to lose weight, good luck! :-) And congrats on finding a gym with the ability to have someone give you tips on what to do--that is invaluable, and I quit going shortly after the gal who did that at my gym left for another job.
ReplyDeleteOoh, thanks for the link, it's looks really helpful! :)
DeleteI joined my uni gym, partly because I can see it from my window (so the journey there doesn't put me off going) and partly because they were doing an offer that made it really affordable. I'm lucky that the staff and facilities are so great :)
I absolutely love it so far, I've never enjoyed exercising so much!
Oooh, best of luck. I came back from Christmas determined to go on my husband's exercise bike at least once a week. I think I've used it once. And I've just been given my fourth birthday cake...
ReplyDeleteThanks :) I love the bikes, they're so much fun! Fourth?! Nom nom nom!
DeleteI excercise a fair bit (to compensate for my monstrous eating), but I'm a bit bored of my bootcamp now and I'm thinking of joining a gym for the variety. I too woulld like to lose weight (about a stone really), but have been trying forever. I find that this has stopped me from sewing up a lot of fitted dresses, as I want to save them for when I'm thinner. Part of me worries that by doing this though, I'll never sew some of my favourite things if I don't manage to lose the weight. It's a tricky decision isn't it!?
ReplyDeleteThe most exercise I got before joining the gym was walking to my lectures/to the supermarket/into town. So the gym has been quite a shock to the system. A pleasant one, but still a shock :) I'd definitely give it a go. I had an induction and a free session before having to pay for membership, so I got to have a go before joining :)
DeleteI'd like to lose at least a stone and a half, but two and a half if I can manage it. And get a lot fitter too!
It is a tricky decision. I know what you mean about fitted dresses. I certainly don't want to be in too fitted dresses right now! I suppose it will be good practice for doing alterations when the time comes :S
