I'm on a roll!

I just posted about two more Christmas presents over at the Crafty Christmas Club! My post is here :) I'm getting excited for Christmas now, but mostly I'm looking forward to going home. I've not been home since the middle of September so I'm missing everyone! Plus mums just moved house, so I'm looking forward to seeing it :) Apparently there's a church pew in the hall!
In other news. . .
Isn't it beautiful?! And it's ring bound!! How practical! No more faffing with a silly book trying to make it stay open on the right page! It's really nice to have a reference book, so I don't have to go looking for a tutorial online. I think I'm going to try the Pastille first, as it's the only one I really have suitable fabric for. I find it so difficult to find fabric with enough drape that isn't a sheer chiffon online! It's so hard to tell, or the description will be 'suitable for dressmaking or quilting'. So not drapey then? Grr! I need a BIG fabric shop near me so I can feel and see the fabric properly.
Is there anywhere online that sells lightweight fabrics that aren't a sheer chiffon? Please let me know!

  1. I've looked, but I can't find any! I must not be looking in the right places. I'm off to do a google search :)

  2. Wow, you really are on a roll aren't you! Excellent stuff! I've got that book on my Xmas wish list, but I'm so tempted just to get it myself - lol!

I've bought lovely fabrics from http://www.croftmill.co.uk/ before - they're lovely quality and they usually have voile and lawn in stock. They'll probably have more of that in warmer months, but worth a look?!

  3. I don't know if it would be prohibitively expensive shipping wise, but I've had decent luck with Fabric.com. Also, Pin Queen has mentioned getting fabric from Fabricland, which I think is in Canada.

  4. Seconding the voile/ Croft Mill suggestion.

You know, I'm on the fence about whether to get the Colette Sewing Handbook or not because I suspect that it wouldn't teach me a lot technique-wise (that I don't have a reference for already), and three out of the five patterns really aren't my thing. But something tells me that seeing versions of the Pastille made up is going to tip me into asking for it for Christmas!

  5. Croft Mill - I agree! And Ditto has a fair selection too.

  6. I am not a roll. I have got half a knitted scarf with 3.657 holes in it and a couple of fabric Christmas stockings half stitched. Oh well.

  8. Thanks everyone!! :) I'm going to scour Croft Mill and Ditto and Chawlas at some point. I'll try and use what I have first though. I'm sure I can find styles to suit the fabric :)
