V8648 - it has a skirt!

Inside, back. The midriff lining being slip stitched down.
Here's the progress I made today :) As you can see I've sewn and attached the skirt. It was a pain trying to keep the midriff lining out of the way and avoiding pins at the same time! I got there in the end. I also stayed the midriff/skirt seam with more selvedge tape. I also stayed the midriff piece that will have the zip sewn to it. I have enough trouble with zips, without having to contend with pieces on the bias! lol
As you can see from the last photo, I'm now in at the stage of slip stitching the midriff lining down over the seams. I've gotten about 6 inches in, then decided to finish for today. I think I'll work on Dom's second sock, I think he's tired of waiting :)
The next stage will be top stitching the midriff pieces, though I'm not sure it I will. The pieces are so small because of my short waist, and I don't want to emphasise them and draw attention to them. What do you think?
Look out for a giveaway tomorrow!! :D

  1. Oooh pretty! I love the fabric, and your insides are so neat! Regarding top stitching, I think it's a matter of personal preference. If you are top stitching the straps etc then you could do the midriff too for consistency, but it doesn't necessarily need it. With my dress I top stitched the straps and around the bust. To be honest I don't really think you can even notice the top stitching though. So if it was me I probably wouldn't bother - but that's mostly out of laziness!!! x

  2. Yeah, I top stitched the front and back bodice pieces as I thought it might help tame the neckline a bit which it did. But because of the print its barely noticeable.
And functionality-wise the midriff is fine, it's all staying in place and everything. So I don't think I'll bother :)
Thanks! The pattern is a good one, as it instructs you to put it together in a way that hides all seam allowances!

  4. Thanks :) It's pretty shapeless on the hanger, as the circle skirt just kinda hangs straight down, but when I gave it a quick try on the skirt flared nicely over my hips. Much more flattering for my waist :)

  7. Haha, thanks! :) Most of my sewing knowledge comes from other sewing blogs and The Sewing Forum (.co.uk). I really need a good reference book, but never seem to get round to getting one! lol
It's a good giveaway (in my humble opinion), even my boyfriend thought it was great! :)
